First Contact.

Bombs dropped out of the blood red sky, from pilot-less stealth ships early the previous morning, signaling General Seth Lucian and his men to battle once again. He was shouting orders into his digital earpiece over the blaring warning sirens and explosions, as he ran to his station to throw on his gear and grab his weapons to head out on the front lines with the rest of his soldiers. For over twenty four hours Seth and his fleet of super soldiers fought their cowardess enemies made up of half men, but mostly machines. In a world powered by technology and power hungry politicians, the entire galaxy was at war with each other.

Seth was an average built soldier, with shoulder length, wavy raven colored hair that hadn't been properly kempt since the battle, his deathly pale skin was stained with sweat, blood, and sand, and he hadn't shaved in over a week. He was exhausted, and anxious after losing over forty of his finest soldiers, and he knew their upcoming mission would cost him even more. He finished up going over his work before his dark gaze fell on the soldiers as they entered the conference room for another briefing, a clear sense of fatigue, anger and adrenaline seemed to fill the air as they sat down and began pulling up the information they'd need on their holographic devices.

Despite how tired and sore Seth was, he managed to stand confidently and watched the soldiers for a moment before addressing them, then pressed a holographic button on his desk pulling up a 3D projection of their enemy's planet near by. "Alright, we'll enter the stronghold through section 4 at 00:00 hours and make our way to section 4.2 by 01:00 hours, from there we will split up into two groups." The screen showed a point where the groups would divide, "Sergeant Wyatt, and I will lead group one to higher ground to cover the rest of you, while Lieutenant Conner will take group two through section 4.3 to section 5 at 09:00 hundred hours and get the bugs in position.” He paused to change the display screen again as he continued, "Once you do that, group two will head to section 8 where they can proceed to use the bugs to hack into the enemy's databank and extract the information we need to infultrate HQ and proceed with the operation. Is that clear?" He asked, and looked at the soldiers once more as they all confirmed that they did.

After the briefing he dismissed the men and went into his office, and let out a tired groan as the door shut behind him. He moved slowly to his desk and sat back in the soft form fitting chair, taking some time to try and clear his mind. He was worn down, his dark eyes told the words he dare not speak to anyone, that he was too old for this. No one could see it, as young as he looked, most mortals that believed they were older then him, figured he was a man no younger then twenty, and no older then thirty. A man just starting out in life, but he was far from it, he had seen and done more in his time then anyone could dare comprehend, and he had the scars to prove it.

He thought back on the wars he fought, back when they had some meaning, some real purpose, but this? What was this for? Nothing, it was a selfish political struggle amongst planets, over who had the greatest technology, and who could get the very best for very little. It was a simple scheme made up by greedy politicians, who cloaked the real purpose for their choice of actions, behind the idea that millions were sacrificing their lives to free those that were being oppressed by a tyrant leader with a god complex.

Seth's dark eyes closed after a moment, in hope to clear his mind of all the racing thoughts, but to no avail. He couldn't seem to stop thinking about the things that plagued his mind he'd seen it so many times before; naive soldiers would believe every word that was being shouted out to them, that they were fighting for honor, pride, glory, and the greater good. Sure the message had changed over the centuries, and the purpose was different, but in the end, it was all lies being spewed out of the mouths of silver tongued devils, that sat on their fat rich asses, and watched the show.

No matter how he spun it in his head; he couldn't justify the reasons for pointless killing. Every day Seth had to put on a show for his troops, play the role of the hardened general that has seen too much, and know how to keep most of his men alive to go home to their families. But when the lights go out and the tired soldier laid his head on the pillow to rest, his regrets and memories haunted him like the ghost he should've been centuries ago. Seth opened his eyes to stare at the metallic ceiling, as he sat alone in the dark office thinking over his seemingly endless life, his childhood, the home he once had back on Earth, and the man he once was, Faolan Aodhan O’Byrne.

He snapped out of his daydream when he heard a familiar beeping that indicated someone was at the door. "Come in." He called and straightened himself in the chair, trying to look busy with his paperwork that had been left untouched for days. He glanced up to see his friend, Lieutenant Riley Conner, they had been close friends for over five years, he had helped Seth adjust to the new place when he first arrived on the Pyliam Space Station, and eventually joined up together in the same unit.

"Hey man, wanna grab a drink?" Riley asked, as he entered the dark office giving his friend a seemingly calm expression. Seth didn't answer, and when he didn't, that calm expression fell as he sighed,”What the hell's wrong now?" He asked, knowing that Seth was probably brooding again, just like he usually did after a fight. The black haired general looked up at Riley, letting out gruff sigh of frustration. "Nothing." He answered a little harshly, as he watched his friend cross his muscular arms and lean back against the cool metal wall before running his hand through his sandy blond hair. "You're full of shit, what's wrong?" Still there was no answer from Seth, and for a seemingly long moment, the two men remained silent. "This is complete load of crap. All of this, and we know it." Seth finally stated his fists tightened, clearly he wasn't just annoyed.

It was a rhetorical question and Seth knew it, but after another shared moment of silence he asked, "Why did we sign up?" He hoped the younger man had an answer, but they both knew he didn't. "I didn't join to play these games, to lie to my men and watch them die believing they died for a just cause!" Seth snapped, as his dark eyes glanced to his friend once again, almost hoping to hear the words that'd make his job less of a burden. He knew, there was nothing that could be said to make it easier. "Do any of us join to play games?" Riley's question was rhetorical, but he did have a point. "All we can do, is go out there and do our job, and kill as many of those bastards as we can." It wasn't the answer Seth wanted, but it was the truth, something few people around here ever spoke. But he knew Riley, he knew his friend wouldn't lie to him, they shared another moment in silence before the dark haired general got to his feet and huffed a frustrated sigh as he made his way to the door, "This shit isn't fucking worth it, why don't those fucking bastards fight there own battles?" It was another rhetorical question, one that seemed to be asked on a daily basis.

"Look man, I get it. But bitching about it isn't going to do a damn thing. Why don't we go get as wasted as these stupid chips will let us okay?" Riley suggested, as they both left the office and walked down the hall to a near by bar. It was closely monitored so the soldiers didn't get drunk, thanks to a small device that was implanted in the back of their neck when they first join, it calculated their body weight, how strong the alcohol was, and how much they drank, if they went over the designated limit the device would send a signal to the brain that made the individual become less interested in drinking more, sure it was a form of mind control but it was one of many things the small device was used for.

Several hours passed, and after having a few drinks, Seth decided to go out to have cigarette alone. It was getting dark now, and the two suns set letting the deep red glow of the moon shine brightly giving the harsh desert landscape an eerie dark red glow. It had cooled off a little, but given time the intense heat wave would become a cold chill once again, like it did every night on the dark desolate planet. He watched the stars for a while losing himself in thought, he still wondered how he'd gone from his life on Earth to come to this strange world centuries in the future.

Time had passed for Seth, he continued to walk and smoke his cigarette trying to enjoy the night, but suddenly he turned towards the sound of loud crackling that seemed like thunder and saw a flash of light explode in the distance he remembered seeing that same light before, the same light he had seen right before he came to Meluthisa. The ground trembled violently nearly knocking him off his feet, but after a moment he took off in a full run back towards the base.

"Sir, there's an unidentified object that crashed thirty miles north of the Omega Valley, what are your orders?" One of the soldiers asked just as Seth arrived, he went inside and got his weapons and gear ready before looking at his men, "Suit up and be ready to move out at my command." He ordered, and then ran down to the command station, "What the hell was that?!" He asked one of the soldiers that regularly monitored the area, she glanced up at him and then back to the screen, "I don't know sir, this is highly unusual. The readings I'm getting from this object are off the charts. I've never seen anything like this before." By this point, Seth was already getting a little more then impatient, "Alright, well get somebody that does. Now!" he ran his hand through his hair, clearly frustrated and unsure as to what to do about this situation. He paced nervously for a moment, while the technician called in a small group of scientists from one of the near by planets to come and try to figure out what had landed there, it'd take some time to figure out what it was, and time wasn't something they had.

Update:

Finally, I've got the first chapter completed, after taking far to long to revise it, I think I am fairly happy with how's it turned out. However I didn't revise it alone, between the help of my friend Hailey, and my boyfriend Kenneth, I think this series might hopefully have some potential.

That being said, I'll post the first chapter to see how it turns out, hopefully some of you will like it. :) I look forward to hearing your thoughts, on the piece and hopefully it'll turn out how I imagined it.

Update:

With the first chapter underway, I've seemed to have gathered a small group of people that are willing to help edit and review the series. I'm hoping it'll make the process a little easier since I lack on creative writing skills. Also, "First Contact" might be a little delayed due to personal reasons, however I hope it won't be to long since I'm really hoping those of you who are interested in the series will like it enough to follow the progress of the series through it's highs and the inevitable lows.
